In Florida, your PIP coverage (Personal Injury Protection coverage) will cover the first 10K in medical bills subject to the bills being reasonable (usually they pay 200% of medicare). After the hospital receives the money from your insurance company (the PIP) , then the balance once it is reduced and adjusted will be on you to pay. You can sue the un-insured party and get a judgment against them. If they don't pay the judgment you can have their license suspended. If you obtain a judgment, the un-insured party can make arrangement to pay monthly and still get to keep his/her license.
