About Me

A substantial portion of Mr. Sklar's practice involves providing on site counsel and day-to-day guidance to clients on small, medium and some of the nation's largest construction projects. Mr. Sklar's practice is unique in that he employs alternative dispute resolution procedures whenever possible to solve problems and resolve disputes before a crisis occurs. Through regularly scheduled meetings with project management staff, Mr. Sklar identifies potential pitfalls, helps maintain contractual compliance, assists in statutory/regulatory compliance issues and recommends methods to solve problems and avoid risk.

When litigation is required, Mr. Sklar has vigorously represented his clients in assorted litigation proceedings. He has successfully handled a wide range of matters before state courts, federal courts, arbitration tribunals, mediation panels, administrative boards, in out of court negotiations and in appellate arenas.

Mr. Sklar has represented clients in cases involving concrete, roofing, foundation, bulkhead, drywall, water proofing, stucco, paint, window and door assemblies, plumbing, electric, fire sprinkler systems, HVAC, masonry and several other building components.

Mr. Sklar is certified as a specialist in Construction Law by the Florida Bar and has had his achievements recognized by Best Lawyers (2008, 2009, 2010), Chambers USA (2007, 2008 & 2009), Florida Super Lawyers (2006, 2007, 2008 & 2009) and Florida Legal Elite (2009). He was also recently recognized by the Legal 500 (2009) as an "excellent" and "up and coming litigator" and he was praised for his "nice touch with the field level staff, which is difficult to do when it comes with mixing lawyers and construction personnel." Mr. Sklar is a member of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), the Associated Builders and Contractors, the Contractors Association of South Florida, the Florida Transportation Builders Association, the American Bar Association, The American Trial Lawyers Association and the Dade County Bar Association.

Additionally, Mr. Sklar has also authored several articles on current developments in construction law and is a frequent lecturer at seminars on construction related topics. Mr. Sklar recently co-authored chapter 5-D entitled "Construction Liens" in the Florida Real Property Litigation (5th edition) handbook published by the Florida Bar which serves as the Florida Bar’s definitive treatise on Florida’s Construction Lien law.
