In 2014, Hunter Higdon, along with law Partner, Derrick Connell, founded Connell Higdon. Mr. Higdon began his legal practice with the largest plaintiff’s employment law firm in Florida where he practiced employee rights litigation and personal injury litigation. Mr. Higdon and Mr. Connell met during law school and became close friends, and they founded Connell Higdon to pursue their dream of representing victims together.
Mr. Higdon represents clients who are victims of workplace harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour violations, personal injury, automobile negligence, product liability, premises liability, and wrongful death. Mr. Higdon proudly provides his clients with the utmost legal service with a personal touch, and he dedicates his life to being an advocate for victims and for standing up for the rights of others.
During his career, Mr. Higdon has had millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements for his clients. His largest verdict to date was against a company for pregnancy discrimination, and the jury returned a verdict in favor of his client for just over $2,298,000. He recently received a verdict of $565,000 for a client who was a whistleblower against a company that was violating OSHA by placing its workers in imminent danger of serious bodily injury and death. Additionally, Mr. Higdon represented two clients whose former employer failed to pay them overtime for all hours that they worked, and the jury returned a total verdict of nearly $400,000. He believes that taking cases to trial ensures that big companies and negligent individuals are held responsible for their unlawful conduct, and he feels that holding these people accountable prevents similar injuries from happening to others.
Mr. Higdon is active in the Florida Justice Association and the American Association for Justice. In 2014, he was selected by his peers to Super Lawyers, a distinction that less than 1% of lawyers in Florida received.
Mr. Higdon was born and raised in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and he attended Harvard University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree and played football for the Crimson. In 2010, he earned his Masters of Business Administration from Stetson University’s School of Business. Mr. Higdon attended Stetson Law School where he earned his Juris Doctorate. During law school, Hunter was a senior associate on Stetson’s Law Review, and he received the St. Petersburg Times Award for writing the best law review paper in 2009. Additionally, he was chosen by his professors to serve as a teaching fellow his last two years of law school. In the summer of 2009, Mr. Higdon served as an intern for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida where he helped prosecute civil cases for the United States government.
