About me

I was born and raised in Middletown, New York. In 1982 I was admitted
to the Florida Bar, and I have been authorized to practice before the
U.S District Court of the Middle District of Florida since 1983 and
before the US. Court of Appeals since 1985. I received my B.A. (with
honors) in 1973 and my Ph.D. in 1977 from State University of New York
at Binghamton. In 1982 I received my J.D from Cornell University. I was
an editor of the Cornell Law Review and am the author of a book and
numerous articles.

After practicing law with many prestigious law firms in Central Florida
I opened my own law firm in 1998. I made the decision to open my own
firm so that I would have unfettered ability to provide clients with
the level of representation and customer care that I believe each
client is entitled to. I have created a boutique style law firm that
focuses on client care. My firm has been structured with the specific
objective of allowing clients the ability to actively engage in their
case through ensuring that each client has frequent communication with
their legal team and involvement with the strategies deigned to meet
each client's specific desires.

It is my mission to aggressively represent my clients in a fashion that
assures they are afforded the full extent of their legal rights, while
focusing on their specific goals and needs.

Are you an attorney? Endorse this lawyer

  • Jonathan A Millet

Attorney Dewitt's advice is spot on; as shown by the answers she has posted, she takes the time to answer questions in a common sense manner and plainly addresses legal issues. I endorse this lawyer.

  • Anne-Marie L. Bowen

I endorse this lawyer. Sherri is one of the few attorneys who is using legitimate legal defenses to help people facing foreclosure rather than mere delay tactics. She has a brilliant legal mind and uses it to her clients' advantage. Recently she was able to stop a foreclosure sale for one of my clients facing bankruptcy.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority.

  1. Public Reprimand - with Conditions
    issued in FL, 2007

Public reprimand means the attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The Bar warns the lawyer in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior and places conditions on the lawyer's license.

Sherri’s comment: “The proceeding recognized that there was no ill intent on the part of Sherri DeWitt and was in part based on the problems created by accepting credit card payments. These problems have been corrected and are no longer an issue.”
