About Me

Born in California and raised in Georgia, John Philip Fox is an experienced trial attorney who focuses on criminal defense and civil litigation. He was won cases in the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals and in federal and state courts throughout Georgia.

After graduating the University of Georgia in 1998, John attended the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. In 2001 he began his career with the Macon law firm Adams, Hemingway & Wilson, where he was named a partner. While at this firm he honed his skills representing a wide variety of individual and corporate clients in criminal, civil and administrative matters. In 2012 he formed the law firm Fox & Smith and on August 2, 2015, his birthday, he opened his own office in Macon, Georgia, where he resides and remains committed to being an active member the community.

John has been recognized by his peers and named to Georgia Trend’s “Legal Elite” for both his criminal practice and his general practice. He has also been named as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers and one of the Top 40 Under 40 criminal defense lawyers by the National Trial Lawyers Association. John is an active member of the Georgia Bar Association, the Macon Bar Association, the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the William Augustus Bootle American Inn of Court.

As a criminal defense attorney, John has extensive trial and appellate experience in state and federal courts throughout Georgia. His cases have ranged from the common, such as guns, drugs, theft and fraud, and assaults, to the complex, including federal civil rights conspiracies, conspiracies to obstruct justice, drug distribution conspiracies, and public corruption and extortion. He has obtained dismissals and acquittals for his clients who faced such charges and has set precedent at the appellate courts. As a civil litigator John not only represents retained individual, corporate and institutional clients, but is often called upon by courts to represent the interests of children and vulnerable or incapacitated adults as an attorney ad litem or guardian ad litem in various proceedings. John has also earned a reputation as a skilled counselor and advocate for condominium and homeowners associations throughout the State of Georgia.

Mr. Fox is an exemplary attorney. I would refer anyone and everyone to him on a regular basis. Despite the fact that I have been a judge, magistrate, prosecutor, and private attorney for over 24 years, I continue to learn from him daily from his Avvo posts. I would recommend that you hire him in an instant.
