Typically when a sheriff is elected he will chose the bonds company and then post a list. The sheriff must approve each company based on a number of factors the least of which is their ability to pay if everyone skips town.

typically the officer will separate all persons in the car with the main focus on the driver. Once separated the officer may elect to give a pbt to screen for consumption. Obviously the result is a go no go scenario. To identify consumption of alcohol at a certain level more specific tests need to be given.

bad news is that you may not get notice of your court date and a warrant may have already issued
imho, the state of Massachusettes can only dictate that you can not drive within the border of it's state. Massachusettes is without power to tell other states what to do. the laws of the state only apply to that state, it is not a federal crime.
that being said you probably want to clear up the dui so that no warrant catches you while you are in another state.
