About Me

Robert S. Thaler, Esq., MA, is the founder and President of Atlanta Family Mediation.

A respected practitioner and teacher in conflict management, Mr. Thaler has significant experience in a wide variety of dispute resolution applications.

Mr. Thaler is an attorney admitted to practice law in New York and Georgia, and is a Registered Neutral with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution.
Rob’s experience includes personally mediating and/or mentoring new mediators in over 500 cases, managing a program with over 5,000 mediation cases, and training and mentoring more than 300 mediators since 2003.

Rob Thaler's extensive mediation training and experience covers a wide range of matters, and his particular specialization is in the area of famiily conflicts, including:

  •  Elder Mediation

  •  Estate Planning/Probate/Trust Disputes

  •  Divorce

  •  Post-Separation Parenting Plans

  •  Adoption Disputes

  •  Grandchildren’s Access to Grandparents

  •  LGBT Couples

  •  Special Education Disputes

  •  Child Guardianship Issues

  •  Parent-Youth Conflicts

  •  Adults with Special Needs

  •  Family Business Conflicts

In one of his most personally meaningful professional experiences as an impartial neutral, Mr. Thaler co-mediated one of the most complicated mediation cases in the Federal 9/11 Victim’s Compensation Fund Mediation Program.  It involved 8 lawyers, and as many parties, negotiating the distribution of the lump sum VCF benefits paid to the survivors of a first responder.  During the all-day mediation session, the parties were able to narrow their negotiating zone of potential agreement, and resulted in a significantly improved relationship among his prior paramours, with whom he had children.

Mr. Thaler began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney for the Kings County District Attorney and for the Special Narcotics Prosecutor of the City of New York, and later engaged in private legal practice in New York City, where he represented clients in civil, criminal, and family court matters.
