Kate’s diverse experience has been invaluable in providing her with insight on family law and civil litigation cases that most lawyers do not have. She worked as the staff attorney for Judge Jack Goger while he was a Fulton County Family Division judge, fully devoted to handling family law cases such as divorce, legitimation, modification, custody and contempt issues. This enabled her to learn the Court’s perspective regarding hundreds of different family law cases. After the Judge’s term with the Family Division ended, Kate also handled the Judge’s civil litigation docket, which included personal injury, medical malpractice, premises liability any many more, from the initial discovery stages through jury trial. She was also formally trained by Henning Mediation as a mediator while working for the Court.
After Kate completed her clerkship with Judge Goger, she worked for one of Atlanta’s top civil litigation defense firms, Carlock, Copeland & Stair, where she was made partner. While at Carlock, Kate worked for many major insurance companies defending cases including nursing home abuse, medical malpractice, motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, real estate and environmental tort cases. Kate learned how the big insurance companies operate behind the scenes, which enables her to evaluate a case the same way the insurance company does and know what they are thinking, what they are doing and why they are doing it.
Kate handles cases anywhere from the pre-suit phase, trial and the appellate level. Not all lawyers are able to handle appeals on the cases they litigate, but Kate argues her own appeals. She has even been fortunate enough to successfully argue before the Georgia Supreme Court.
Kate grew up in Lilburn, Georgia and attended Parkview High School. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia where she underwent a full time internship at the Athens-Clarke County Solicitor General’s office. Kate earned her law degree from Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia where she was a member of the Moot Court Society and the Moot Court Review Board.
Kate has two wonderful sons, Jack and Connor. In her free time, she is always trying to learn new things such as golf and mountain biking. She is currently teaching herself to cook. Kate was an avid runner as a child and recently got back to running and completed her first half marathon in 2012. Kate loves to travel and experience other cultures. She is also a fan of live music and theatre.

I worked with Kate on a complex injury issue that took nearly 4 years to come to trial. I was always impressed by her preparedness, professionalism, and willingness to go the extra mile in not only litigating the matter, but in making sure the client felt as comfortable as possible about the entire process. I look forward to working with her again.
