There are two counties, Gwinnett and Cobb, that have the 287G program. Any inmate arrested and booked for ANY offense will be reviewed by ICE. If there are any prior deportations (even a stop and fingerprint at the border) you risk deportation. If there are no other major offenses, the current system typically is not deporting someone for traffic violations only. However, keep in mind the offense if more serious with each arrest. You get 2 days in jail for the first offense, 10 days for the second, 30 days for the third, and a felony charge with a year in prison for the fourth. Immigration will treat the third offense as serious and you risk deportation for that one or any subsequent offense.

  • I was pulled over after an accident at gunpoint and cited for DUI and an open container, even though I refused a breath test.

I was never given a field sobriety test and pulled over immediately, the cop said he thought I was preparing to ditch the car. He said I fit a description in a high crime area of a breaking into an auto crime (I am a black male who owns a BMW)

There are a dozen different reasons why you should hire an attorney in this case. Most offer a free consultation. Meet with several and get different opinions from them. Decide which one you like because you will be investing money in their opinion.

  • I was injured at my place of employment, and my employer refuses to acknowledge the workman's comp claim. Who can help me?

    Douglas’s Answer

It sounds as though you have a very complex case, the kind that are nearly impossible to answer in these small spaces. Most of the lawyers here offer free consultations to evaluate your case in person. I would suggest you look through some of the profiles and choose a few you are comfortable with and talk to them in person. You clearly need the help of an attorney. You must file your claim within one year of your accident, so don't wait!

I have lost use of right hand an seem to just drag leg around my left arm is doing pretty good. I have scar on my face how much should I expect ins to offer to settle.

    Douglas’s Answer

There is not nearly enough information to answer your question. It is clear that this is a very serious injury with potentially catastrophic permanent injuries. You should hire an experienced workers' comp attorney who will help you get the medical treatment you need and then help maximize the value of the claim to ensure you get the best recovery (physically, mentally, and financially) possible. You should not try to navigate this employer-friendly system alone.

    Douglas’s Answer

Well, there is no question here, but you should certainly hire a workers' compensation expert to represent your interests in your claim. The insurance company will have an adjuster and possibly an attorney and they will be looking to minimize the expense associated with your claim at every turn.

  • If my GA drivers license was not confiscated after receiving a DUI charge, do I still need to appeal within 10 business days?

My license wasn't taken, although I was charged and have a court date. I don't believe any 1205 form was issued to me. Who should I check with about this situation?

    Douglas’s Answer

Yes...it's always good to file an appeal out of an abundance of caution. The Dept of Driver Services will always refund your money if no 1205 is filed.
