About Me

Meghan Sheffer has been an Associate Attorney with Powers McCartan, PLLC since 2007. Over the last 4 years of practice, Meghan has created a unique niche within the firm. In addition to being the lead attorney responsible for Department of Transportation / Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and license restoration issues, Meghan acts as the in-office attorney, both securing and retaining new clients and developing administrative policies and inter-office procedures. Meghan has successfully handled many types of Administrative Hearings at DMV, as well as DMV Appeals in Superior Court. Over the last two years, she has coordinated the intern program at the office, mentoring and providing valuable work experience to law students.

Meghan was born and raised in Akron, Ohio.  In 2001, she graduated cum laude from The University of Akron (UA) with a degree in Business and Organizational Communication.  While at UA she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.  She worked for the on-campus radio station, WZIP FM, and was the Opinion Editor for the school’s newspaper, The Bucthelite

Meghan earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Akron School of Law in December 2006. She graduated in the top 35% of her class. While attending school, Meghan worked full-time at the City of Akron Prosecutor’s Office as a legal intern. 

Meghan is a member of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice and the Mecklenburg County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. In her spare time, she practices Yoga, enjoys tennis and travel.  She also revels in playing cards with family and friends, listening to music and remaining forever hopeful for the success of the Cleveland Browns.
