Attorney Jessica Lesowitz is an experienced criminal and family law attorney and is a member of both the North Carolina and California State Bars.
Ms. Lesowitz is a high honors graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in 1998. Ms. Lesowitz is also a graduate of Pepperdine University School of Law, where she twice made Dean’s List and earned her Juris Doctorate in 2001. While a student at Pepperdine, Ms. Lesowitz had the honor of receiving a federal judicial clerkship with the Executive Office of Immigration Review, an internship with the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, as well as a position with the preeminent family law firm Trope & Trope. Ms. Lesowitz also received several awards, including the Witkin Award for Excellence in Family Law (2001) and the American Jurisprudence Award in Family Law (2001).
Community involvement is the foundation upon which Ms. Lesowitz has built her legal career. While in California, Ms. Lesowitz performed Pro Bono work through the non-profit group The Harriet Buhai Center for Family Law, and has participated in events such as National Law Day, and Roxbury Park’s Ask a Lawyer Day. Ms. Lesowitz also spoke at Pepperdine University’s Center for Entrepreneurship’s about Prenuptial Agreements, and was an active member of the Beverly Hills Bar Association from 2001-2007, where she served for two years as Barrister’s Secretary.
From 2005 to 2007, after working in the area of family law for five years, Ms. Lesowitz opened her own law practice in Los Angeles. Ms. Lesowitz’s cases involved all areas of the field, including the negotiation, mediation and litigation of marital dissolution proceedings (divorces), child custody proceedings, division of assets, child and spousal support cases, and prenuptial agreements.
During her time as a solo practitioner, Ms. Lesowitz had the honorable distinction of being nominated two years in a row as one of Los Angeles Magazine’s SuperLawyers Under 40. Ms. Lesowitz appeared in the publication in 2005 and 2006, and was also featured in SuperLawyers Magazine.
In 2007, Ms. Lesowitz permanently relocated to the Raleigh area, becoming a member of the North Carolina State Bar Association, the Tenth Judicial District, and the Wake County Bar Association. Building on her time with the District Attorney’s Office, Ms. Lesowitz has resumed the practice of criminal law, emphasizing her work in the area of domestic violence defense, misdemeanors, felonies, and Driving While Impaired cases.
Since joining Roberts Law Group PLLC in May, 2009, Ms. Lesowitz has appeared in Court on countless criminal, domestic violence and DWI proceedings. Results oriented, Ms. Lesowitz has quickly built a positive reputation amongst her peers, colleagues and judicial officers in Wake, Durham, Orange, and Johnston Counties, where she regularly represents felony and misdemeanor client-defendants both in District and Superior Court. Ms. Lesowitz also serves as a Court appointed attorney for the misdemeanor docket of Wake County’s Public Defender’s Office.
Due to the substantial number of DWI cases in which she has been involved, in October, 2009, Ms. Lesowitz successfully completed the same 40-Hour Standardized Field Sobriety Training course offered to law enforcement and was successfully certified by the National Highway and Transportation Safety Administration. On the final exam, Ms. Lesowitz received one of the highest scores in her class.
Bringing her interests in family law and criminal law together, Ms. Lesowitz also has the distinction of serving as appointed defense counsel for Wake County’s Child Support Enforcement Court where she represents defendants facing imprisonment for failure to pay child support.
Ms. Lesowitz also continues to practice in the area of domestic matters and, in addition to her work in criminal law, heads the Family Law Division of Roberts Law Group PLLC.
