I hired John T. Orcutt in August 2013 to handle a bankruptcy case. I made my appointment for a free counseltation. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I would recommend this lawyer to my closest family and friend.

When roadblocks in Life come your way and you lose your job and see no alternative but Bankruptcy and with low self-esteem you enter the office of Ms. Amy Hodge, Paralegal for Mr. John Orcutt. The first minute of our initial conversation was her making me see a future that I could not see with a debt relief solution. As we progress it got better and better knowing that my life was not over but I can hold me head back up and know that I was going to be ok. Suicidal thoughts diminished and yes... I could see a light at the end of that dark tunnel. She guided me all the way with a kindness and sincerity that is often forgotten in customer service. Now, I am going to be ok thanks to the professional and diligent work of Ms. Amy Hodge. She was not only my Paralegal but now I consider her a Friend that cares about her customers. Please convey a heartfelt Thank you to her.

I would first like to say you have a fantastic staff at your Wilson , NC office. I would especially like to thank your paralegal Jessica. She showed impeccable professionalism and yet she put me at ease by helping me construct my case from beginning to end. Again I wish to thank you and I will highly recommend your office to anyone that may be in need as I was. Thank you, your the best.

Like the commercials say folks--- Please Please get the facts about bankruptcy from the professionals, not friends and family... the entire staff did a great job from start to finish, it was no where near as hard as I thought it would be and the staff was available at all times to answer questions and check numbers etc etc... the paperwork involved has been so well laid out and simplified by the firm I wish I had done this a couple of years earlier... so please, if your in over your head--- and you know if you are--- go see these folks, they really are going to help you... and best of luck to all of you... dale

They made a very uncomfortable situation very comfortable. Answered all my questions and let me know it was okay, and they would help me fix things. They helped me keep my house, and save my family! My initial contact, Amy Hodge was the best! She was so friendly and I immediately got the feeling she cared about my case from the start. This kind of attitude goes along way and is the main reason I choose this law firm. Highly recommend!

I used Jon Orcutt's services to declare bankruptcy. The first two ladies that I met with were awesome. They were able to guide me through the paperwork and were very helpful. Once we filed for bankruptcy it was a different story, we were handed off to a paralegal and communication stopped. We had to call for updates and for other issues and often we would need to leave several message over several days because they were not available to take calls or even answer emails. On top of that, when we did get a response it was short and rude! Our questions were not fully answered and I felt like they were talking down to me because I was not familiar with all the legal terms. Then I would need to contact them again to get the correct answers which again would take days. I'm not sure if they are understaffed or just don't care. I would not recommend.

John Tyrrel Orcutt’s response: “John Orcutt here: This is the very type of situation I struggle, everyday, to avoid. We work very hard to answer every call and to get every client the answers and help they need as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, it is impossible to satisfy everyone all the time. I only hope the client who wrote this review will get in touch with me so I can make it right. Please call me. My cell number is 919-413-3133. When you call, tell me what happened and I will do my best to make it right. There is never, ever, under any circumstances, a reason or an excuse for being rude. If you know me, you would know that treating clients with anything less than complete caring and respect is simply not who I am. If you would, please, call me and give me a chance to prove it. Respectfully.”

To start off with, the only person we ever met with was a paralegal. We never spoke with an attorney and the only time we saw one was in court. I could live with that as long as my case was filed. Fast forward 4 years and my case is discharged like it should. We get our lives straight and decide to sell our home and buy a new one. Well that's where the Office of John T Orcutt really showed how unprofessional and terrible of a law firm they really are. This firm cost me almost $5000 when I sold my home! Come to find out I had a lien against my property from 2004. My great attorney John T Orcutt never vacated the judgement against me and I had to pay it! After several phone calls and speaking to no one I finally got in touch with a paralegal. I have to say she tried to help but it was to late. This law firm cost twice as much as others to file your case and you get service like this! This law firm only deals with bankruptcy seems like they could be better at their job.... Very disappointed customer....

John Tyrrel Orcutt’s response: “John Orcutt here: I doubt seriously that we cost this client $5,000. Unfortunately, as is many times the case, the client did not reveal his identity, making it impossible for me to review his case to find out what really happened. Accordingly, I will have to respond without all the facts. First off, it is not clear what kind of lien, if any, was on record against this client's property. Some liens we can get rid of. Others we cannot. It is very likely that this client never revealed to us any information about a lien or even information to indicate there might be a lien of some sort against his property. For all I know, the lien might not actually have been a valid lien at all, and that he was given incorrect information by some closing attorney. If the lien was a lien that arises from a judgment, the fact is that we get deal with and get rid of these all the time, if we have information sufficient to let us know there is a lien. Sometimes, we can get rid of the entire lien from a judgment. Sometimes, we can't. If we know about a lien while the client is still in a bankruptcy case, we often file a motion to avoid it right then. However, just because a client's case is done does not take away our ability to avoid a judgment lien. Many times, if we find out about a judgment lien for the first time after a case is finished, we can simply file a motion to reopen the case, followed by a motion to avoid the lien. If this client's case involved a lien we could avoid, it is possible that given the client's deadline on selling his home, we did not have enough time to file any necessary motions. I just don't know. What I do know is that we deal with liens all the time and very rarely, if ever, miss a lien when given at least a minimal amount of information that a lien may exist. Also, generally, assuming the lien was a lien that arose from a judgment, the lien is only good for 10 years and may well have already expired as a lien of record. As for the assertion that our firm costs "twice as much as others to file your case, that statement is simply not true. If this was a Chapter 7 case, the market dictates what we can charge. If this was a Chapter 13 case, our fees are set by the court. That said, my guess, and it's just a guess based on experience in having represented upwards of 50,000 families, is that we did not do anything wrong. But again, I just don't know, because responding fully and adequately to an anonymous review is simply not possible. To the reviewer, I say this: Email me. Let me know who you are so I can find out what really happened in your case. I would be glad to look into this. I am not saying that we never screw something up, but as a firm that, as you say, "only deals with bankruptcy", we are very good at what we do. If we screwed up something, I want to know. If not, I would love the courtesy of your giving me a chance to prove to you that we did nothing wrong. We exist to help, not hurt, and enjoy a great reputation for a reason. Respectfully submitted.”
