Kristin R. Kelly was born in Wilmington, North Carolina. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Kristin attended North Carolina Central University School of Law and graduated in 2008. She was admitted to practice law in North Carolina in August, 2008.
Kristin began her legal practice work as a Staff Attorney for Legal Aid of North Carolina, Inc. in the Winston-Salem Office. She practiced with the Family Law Unit. Kristin went into private practice in 2011 where she began practicing in the area of criminal defense and family law.
Kristin has handled hundreds of trials for both family law and criminal defense matters. She is an experienced litigator and a strong advocate for her clients in and out of the courtroom. Kristin is admitted to practice in all state courts in North Carolina as well as the Federal Courts in the Middle District of North Carolina.
Kristin is currently serving a two-year term on the Ethics and Grievance Committee for the 21st Judicial District Bar/Forsyth County Bar Association. She is the current president for the Forsyth County Criminal Defense Trial Lawyers Association and the Immediate Past-President of the Forsyth County Young Lawyers Division. She is also a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and was the recipient of the Younger Lawyer Pro Bono Attorney of the Year award from the Young Lawyers Division of the North Carolina Bar Association in 2014.
Kristin also enjoys volunteering and serving her community. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Junior League of Winston-Salem and Authoring Action. In her spare time, Kristin enjoys going to the beach, playing golf, and playing with her dog, Azalea. Azalea is the canine paralegal at Kelly & Payne, PLLC. She is here almost every day to help the Attorneys and to provide emotional support for the clients.
