Case Conclusion Date: February 4, 2009
Practice Area: Speeding / Traffic Ticket
Outcome: Not Guilty on both counts.
Description: Middle aged client, driving a Ford Mustang, was at a traffic light on a rural road. Young kid in a souped-up Japanese car pulls up to the light next to my client, and revs the engine. When the light turns green, both my client and the other kid take off - reaching an alleged top speed of 107 MPH in a 45 MPH zone, when a County Sheriff comes around a corner driving the other way, and gets both my client and the kid. Deputy charges both with Speed Contest (5 Points, $290 Pre-payable fine) and Speeding (5 Points, $530.00 Pre-payable fine). Kid shows up to court with another attorney, who works out what seems to be a decent deal with the officer - plead guilty to the Speed Contest citation, with no evidence (and therefore a not guilty) for the speeding. My client ends up with a MUCH better outcome after a plea of Not Guilty to both charges...
