I spent a long time recently talking to Joan about "educational advocacy" for special needs children in northern Virginia. I have a couple of children myself who are in this process. That world can be very, very complicated but Joan impressed me as understanding both families with special-needs children and the Virginia state rules and regulations about getting the best educational experience for these children that you can. I would highly recommend that if you have a child who is requiring special education services that you at least consult with Joan early on. She will tell it to you straight-sometimes all you need is some good advice-but she will also be able to help you and your family navigate the complex rules. I was very impressed.
