About Me

Since graduating law school, Christopher Gowen's career has focused on providing a voice in our criminal justice system for those who are rarely heard. He began his legal career as a public defender under the famous Bennett Brummer in Miami-Dade, Florida. As an Assistant Public Defender, Chris represented hundreds of adult and juvenile clients accused of committing crimes. Chris had a very successful trial record and continues to provide vigorous representation to clients in the DC metro area. Chris left the Public Defender's office to work for former President William Jefferson Clinton and then Senator Hilary Clinton. Chris was a fact checker for President Clinton's memoirs, My Life. He also served as a traveling aid for the President’s national and international trips. Chris finished his tenure with the Clintons by directing the advance operations for Senator Hilary Clinton during her presidential campaign in Iowa. Chris then joined the American Bar Association as the Senior Staff Attorney for the Criminal Justice Section in Washington, DC. For over three years, he focused on directing grant projects, developing criminal justice policy, and coordinating amicus briefs for the United States Supreme Court on topics relating to reentry, juvenile law, and criminal defense.

Chris is currently an Adjunct Professor of Law at American University Washington College of Law, where he teaches Legal Ethics and upper level seminars.

Christopher is a graduate of Villanova University and the University of Miami School of Law. He is licensed to practice in the District of Columbia, and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.

In his spare time, Chris enjoys attending Philadelphia Phillies games with his wife, Carol, and their one-year old daughter, Madison.
