Formed a nonprofit and obtained 501(c)(3) tax-exemption

Practice Area: Tax

Outcome: The organization obtained 501(c)(3) tax exemption

Description: An organization wanted to incorporate and become tax-exempt to be able receive contributions that would be tax-deductible. I formed the nonprofit corporation, advised them regarding governance issues, and prepared the Bylaws and a Conflict of Interest policy. Because they hired me before the organization was incorporated, I was able to prepare these documents with various provisions that are necessary or helpful for obtaining 501c3 tax exemption. I prepared and file the application for tax exemption, which, when granted, rendered them a 501c3 corporation. I also gave them advise about how to maintain their exemption.
