Ms. Spero graduated magna cum laude from Robert Morris University in 2000 with a B.S.B.A. in Accounting. She has worked in both private and public accounting in the areas of tax preparation and auditing. She received her Juris Doctorate degree in June 2004 from Duquesne University School of Law. While attending law school, Ms. Spero interned for the Honorable Judge Joseph A. Del Sole of the Pennsylvania Superior Court and also completed a one-year internship in the Allegheny County Family Division. Ms. Spero was a member of the Duquesne Law School Tax Appellate Moot Court Team. She began her employment as a law clerk with a Pittsburgh based family law firm in May 2003 and accepted a position as an Associate Attorney with that office in October 2004 after passing the Pennsylvania Bar Examination. Ms. Spero spent over ten years at her prior law firm practicing exclusively family law prior to joining Cordell & Cordell, P.C. in April of 2015.
Beginning in 2008, Jamie has been honored by the publication, Pennsylvania Super Lawyers, as a "Rising Star" in the family law field; a honor bestowed upon only 2.5% of all Pennsylvania associate attorneys. In December of 2009, she was also honored by being invited by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute to act as a lecturer to other family law attorneys on the topic of "Tax Laws for the Family Law Practioner". In 2014, she was selected as one of the top ten Pennsylvania attorneys under the age of forty by the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys. In that same year she was rated by Lead Counsel in Divorce Law.
With Ms. Spero's accounting and tax backgrounds, Ms. Spero enjoys working on complex support and equitable distribution cases. The complex support cases include cases where one party is self-employed, has an interest in a partnership, is a shareholder in a corporation, or is a high income wage earner where the combined incomes of the parties exceed $30,000 net per month. Ms. Spero's complex support and equitable distribution cases have included individuals with professional degrees such as doctors, professional athletes, and individuals with various business interests.
