On several occasions I have tried explaining to my children, the oldest of which are 6 year old twins, what I do for a living.  I have accepted that my job is a bit difficult for a child to grasp so I started telling them that I “help people understand the rules”.  Simply stated, that is all I do.

When a client comes to me for help, it is usually because they don’t know how to solve their problem on their own.  I explain the rules, regulations or laws and help them on their way, sometimes with my continued hand holding and sometimes without.
