Eric A. Tepper is a partner in Gordon, Tepper & DeCoursey, LLP, and practices divorce and family law throughout the State of New York.   Mr. Tepper graduated from Hamilton College with a B.A. degree, magna cum laude, in 1979, and from George Washington University Law School with a Juris Doctor degree, with honors, in 1982.   He has been selected by his peers for inclusion in "The Best Lawyers in America," for the 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 editions.   He is also listed in the 2007, 2008 and 2009  New York Super Lawyers-Upstate Edition.  Super Lawyers previously selected him as one of the top 25 lawyers from all categories in the Hudson Valley region and one of the top matrimonial lawyers in that region.

 

Mr. Tepper is admitted to the New York and Massachusetts Bars, and to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and the District of Massachusetts. In 1999, Mr. Tepper was appointed by New York’s Chief Administrative Judge to serve on the Statewide Committee on Matrimonial Practice chaired by the Hon. Jacqueline Silbermann.  He was one of two representatives to the Statewide Matrimonial Committee from the Third Department. In 2009, Mr. Tepper was appointed by New York's Chief Administrative Judge to serve on the newly formed Unifed Court System Matrimonial Advisory Committee chaired by the Hon. Sharon Townsend.  He is one of two representives to the Matrimonial Advisory Committee from the Third Department. Mr. Tepper serves on the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association, Family Law Section, where he is co-chair of the Committee on Substantive Law Relating to the Family. He also served on the Family Law Section's ethics hot line.  In 2004, Mr. Tepper was appointed to the CLE Committee for the New York State Bar Association and still serves on that committee.  Mr. Tepper is a member of the Schenectady County Bar Association where he is co-chair of the matrimonial committee.

 

Mr. Tepper has lectured extensively, and written course material on family law, divorce, and matrimonial issues for judicial education and NYSBA CLE programs throughout New York State. Mr. Tepper has also lectured on matrimonial law to Supreme and Family Court judges on numerous occasions at Judicial Education Seminars ("judge school") sponsored by the Office of Court Administration. He has lectured at judge school in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.  He has also lectured on matrimonial law to court attorneys for the Office of Court Administration.   Mr. Tepper has lectured on matrimonial law to the Appellate Division, Third Department. He has also lectured for the Business Law Institute, Capital District Women’s Bar Association, Schenectady County Legal Professionals, Schenectady County Bar Association and for other community organizations.

 

Mr. Tepper currently serves on the Board of Directors of the New York Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts ("AFCC"). He also serves on the Board of the Center for Community Justice. He previously was on the Board of Directors of the Northeast Parent and Child Society for nine years Since 2003, Mr. Tepper has served on the Editorial Board for the Lexis/Nexis publication on New York Matrimonial Actions.
