The Law Offices of Joseph H. Nivin, P.C. is a general practice law firm, with a special focus on family law.
For three years, I represented the New York City child welfare agency in Family Court proceedings. While working for the agency, I appeared in Family Court virtually every day, and I litigated dozens of contested hearings.
Family court litigation is a daunting process with high stakes. As your attorney, I will work diligently to protect your rights and those of your children. I always try to expedite cases, but never at the expense of my clients. I will litigate your case at every stage if necessary to defend your interests.
I graduated from Brooklyn Law School, and I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania. When I attended Brooklyn Law School, I served as President of the Unemployment Action Center, where I represented individuals who were denied unemployment insurance benefits by the New York State Department of Labor. I am admitted to practice law before the courts of New York and Connecticut, as well as before the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts. I serve on the Queens County Bar Association Juvenile Justice Committee, and I am an incoming member of the Board of Directors of the Brandeis Association of Queens County. Furthermore, I am a member of the Assigned Counsel/Attorneys for Children Panel for the Second Judicial Department. I regularly represent litigants in appeals from Family Court matters, and I have argued successfully before the Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department.
I am available to represent people in the following types of cases:
