Mr. Levitt, the founding partner of Levitt and Kaizer (40 Fulton Street, NY, NY 10038, (212) 480-4000), has a national reputation for excellence. Described by a Second Circuit Judge in the Foreword of a popular legal treatise as “an outstanding defense lawyer with a scholarly bent,” he is author of the Second Circuit Criminal Law Update, a 1,200-page outline of Second Circuit criminal Law (North Law Publishers 2009), and has written numerous magazine articles on a variety of subjects. He has been a frequent lecturer for several organizations, including the New York County Lawyers Association, the Center For Negotiating Strategy and the New York Criminal Bar Association. A life member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Mr. Levitt is also a former Board Member and honoree of the New York Criminal Bar Association and a long-term member of the American Bar Association.
An active and well-known trial and appellate lawyer, Mr. Levitt has been involved in numerous high-profile cases, defending clients against charges that include, among many others, RICO, securities fraud, tax evasion, official corruption, drug distribution, murder, arson, robbery and money laundering. His firm also has an active civil litigation practice in New York state and federal court. He is a member of the Bars of the States of New York and Florida, the District of Colombia and several federal district courts and circuit courts of appeal, as well as the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Levitt is an honors graduate of the University of Miami School of Law (1977) and earned his LL.M. from New York University (1978). He has been in private practice for more than thirty years and enjoys an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He practices with his partner, Nicholas Kaizer, and three associates, Yvonne Shivers, Dean Solomon and Emily Golub.
