About me

I have been practicing law in New York since 1982. My firm, Orenstein & Orenstein, LLC, is AV rated by Martindale-Hubble, the pre-eminent attorney rating service in the country, and has been listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers since 2006. I am a graduate of Columbia College and Boston University School of Law.

Prior to 2000, out of necessity, I built up a broad, general practice covering numerous areas of the law. Representing people and businesses of all kinds, I was able to obtain a broad but fairly deep base of legal knowledge and practical experience. During that time, I practiced in such diverse fields as civil litigation, business matters, estate planning, intellectual property, entertainment law, every manner of commercial transaction, landlord/tenant cases, and, of course, family law. But it was the family law cases, particularly those involving children, which I always found the most satisfying.

In 2000, I decided to narrow the focus of my firm's practice to family law. Currently, I represent clients in connection with prenuptial and post-nuptial agreements, divorces, separations, annulments, paternity, child support, custody, and visitation matters, equitable distribution and division of marital assets, maintenance (also known as alimony), court hearings, motions and trials, post divorce enforcement and modification proceedings, and appeals. I regularly appear in Family Court and Supreme Court in Manhattan and the surrounding boroughs.

I represent both men and women clients, with equal respect and zeal. I treat eacho of my clients, foremost, as a person who deserves my best professional advise, counsel, and representation as their lawyer.
