About Me

MICHAEL A. MALIA, J.D., LL.M. is a seasoned trial attorney with wide-ranging first chair experience, including trying over 50 cases, many of which have been published by Jury Verdict Review and Analysis and Verdict Search.  Mr. Malia has taken jury trials to verdict in 9 of the 21 counties encompassing North, Central and South Jersey.  He is triple board certified, including being: Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney; a Board Certified Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy; and a Board Certified Civil Pretrial Practice Advocate by the National Board of Civil Pretrial Practice Advocacy. 


 


For the past four years, Mr. Malia was included in New Jersey Super Lawyers Rising Stars.  He has attained an AV® Preeminent™ rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest ranking of both ethical standards and legal ability awarded.  For the past three years, he was chosen for inclusion in New Jersey’s Legal Leaders: Top Rated Lawyers in Insurance Law and Personal Injury.  He was selected as a Charter Member of Rue Ratings’ Best Attorneys of America.  In 2015, Mr. Malia was invited to become a member of the Nation’s Top One Percent by the National Association of Distinguished Counsel. 


 


The prestigious Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM) extended a membership invitation to Mr. Malia.  The National Board of Trial Advocacy has asked Mr. Malia to draft exam questions and to grade the answers of lawyers seeking to become Board Certified Civil Trial Advocates.  He is a court-appointed arbitrator in Ocean County. 


 


As a member of Pringle Quinn Anzano’s Insurance, Healthcare and Financial Fraud Litigation Practice Group, Mr. Malia aggressively investigates, litigates and tries to verdict sophisticated insurance and healthcare fraud schemes.  He has also handled other complex civil litigation, including the defense of personal injury cases as part of the Special Investigation Units (SIUs) of insurance carriers.  Before joining Pringle Quinn Anzano, he was a partner with the New Jersey law firm of King, Kitrick, Jackson & McWeeney, where he managed a diverse array of civil litigation from initial filing to jury verdict and appeal.  Mr. Malia was previously a Philadelphia trial attorney.


 


Mr. Malia has been asked to lecture at training programs on a variety of subjects ranging from litigation/trial strategy to direct and cross-examination of experts.  Additional engagements included being: a CLE speaker at the New Jersey Special Investigators Association’s Annual Anti Insurance Fraud Training Seminar; a CLE moderator and panel member for the New Jersey Defense Association’s ADR seminar; and a CLE speaker at the New Jersey Defense Association’s Annual Convention.


 


The New Jersey Defense Association (N.J.D.A.) elected Mr. Malia to its Board of Directors (four-year term) because of his active involvement in the organization.  For the past three years, he has been the N.J.D.A.’s ADR Committee Chair.  He Founded the N.J.D.A.’s Fraud Committee, of which he has also been the Chair.  Mr. Malia has published the following articles in the N.J.D.A.’s New Jersey Defense: “Uncovering Fraud in the Referral Relationship”, Volume 29, Issue 3 (2014); “The Appellate Division Slays the Bad Faith Dragon in UM Lawsuit”, Volume 28, Issue 2 (2013); “None the Wiser: The Law Division’s Split Decisions on Whether Outstanding Medical Bills are Admissible in Minimum PIP Cases”, Volume 27, Issue 3 (2012); “The Appellate Division Stifles Fraud Discovery in Suspicious PIP Disputes”, Volume 26, Issue 2 (2010); “Still No Bootstrapping Allowed: The Supreme Court in Agha Reinforces the Brun Holding”, Volume 25, Issue 3 (2009); and “Pardo No Longer a Plaintiff’s Sword: Jury to Decide Whether a Herniation is a Permanent Injury”, Volume 25, Issue 1 (2009). 


 


He has been licensed by the New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania Bars, as well as by the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.  Mr. Malia graduated from Temple University Beasley School of Law with a Master of Laws in Trial Advocacy.  He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in business cum laude from the University of Scranton.
