First, consult with a personal injury attorney in your area, this could be a premise liability case (against the gas station/owner) or a products liability case (against the hose manufacturer) or a negligence case (against the installer of the hose/system). Or it could be all three.

Do not attempt to settle until your doctor indicates that you are at MMI (maximum medical improvement) which given that kind of injury will take a while. The very next thing you should do is go see a personal injury attorney. Your case has significant value, and you will not get full value on your own.

The person who you hit is likely going to file a claim with the rental car company, which will then in turn contact your insurance company, and you do not want to risk your coverage by not reporting it/cooperating with your insurance company. Its going to get back to the employer one way or the other. Be sure, however, not to jeopardize any defenses you may have to the DUI by saying something to the insurance company that will come back to haunt you. Best to get an attorney to help you...

Unless your father brought the suit on your behalf because you were a minor, then absolutely not. I'm not sure about California, but in Connecticut, that practice also happens to be unethical and can result in an attorney suspension. Demand the $600 from the attorney.

You should sit down face to face with your lawyer and ask her questions about the liability difficulties in your case. Premise liability cases are extremely difficult under the best of circumstances- you will need to prove not only that Home Depot was negligent, but that they had (or should have had) notice of the defect and a reasonable time to correct it. In addition, whether or not you were negligent in paying attention to your surroundings is likely also to be an issue for a jury to...

Civil court. Generally lawsuits are started by a writ, summons and complaint, served on a person and then returned to court by a certain date. Its unclear from your question whether the lawyer filed a claim with the insurance company in May, or filed the complaint with the court in May. Either way, a couple of months of waiting is not unusual. You should speak with your attorney about what is going on.

If its just a demand letter, it doesn't need to go to the registered agent, in fact that may actually delay things. Send it to their claims department if they have one, or their legal department if they don't.

There has to be a reason why the settlement offer is so low with medical bills at 20k. Ask your lawyer to explain why- don't get defensive when he tells you all the problems with the case, just listen, and then see if you two can figure out a way around the problems. Sometimes when there are a lot of medical bills and there is either a limited policy (don't know here) or the case has too many problems to take to trial, lawyers can arrange for a reduction in the medical bills. The doctor, the...
