Attorney MatthewKelley joined the Law Offices of James B. Stinson in June 2011 after nearly six years in the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office. Kelley specializes in criminal defense, civil litigation and real estate law.
During his distinguished career in the District Attorney's Office Attorney Kelley prosecuted cases in both the District and Superior Court. His trial experience ranges from misdemeanors such as Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, Operating Without a License, Assault and Battery and simple narcotic offenses to the more serious felonies of Motor Vehicle Homicide, Rape, Armed Robbery and Trafficking in Narcotics. During his time in the District Attorney’s Office, Kelley prosecuted some of the Cape’s most high-profile cases, made Grand Jury presentations, led a Judicial Inquest and served as lead counsel on hundreds of cases.
In the summer of 2009, Attorney Kelley was appointed Chief District Prosecutor for the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office. In that capacity, Kelley supervised the District Courts located in Falmouth, Barnstable, Orleans, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. He conducted a nine- month training program with local police departments, spoke at numerous community events and was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the District Attorney's Office at the annual state wide Prosecutor's conference. Kelley is a seasoned litigator who brings his knowledge of the law and courtroom savvy to the benefit of his clients.
Since joining Attorney Stinson in 2011, Kelley has successfully defended clients charged with a variety of criminal matters from major felonies in Superior Court to motor vehicle infractions in the District Court. Attorney Kelley, a resident of Harwich, MA, is a 1998 graduate of Harwich High School, a 2002 graduate of Davidson College and a 2005 graduate of Suffolk University Law School. He has been a member of the Massachusetts bar since 2005.
