Thank you for the response!
Let me be clear that I will not be drinking while operating the water crafts in question, just wanting to know if the craft must have an IID installed on it like my car while on diversion. I would not like to have my Diversion thrown out because I violated a rule I did not know existed.
You can also get a DUI on a bicycle, but there are no IID devices to stop a bike from starting.

Unfortunately, there is a maxim in American Law: ignorance of a law is no excuse for breaking it. In other words, just because you did not know the law existed, does not mean you are excused from punishment for breaking it.

DUI is part of a State's Criminal Code. Many States have their own Maritime law as well. However, as it pertains to DUI and maritime law, there is no law (of which I am aware) as this is GENERALLY a State issue and not a Federal issue. So if a vessel, Moped, Motorcycle, go-kart, gas powered skateboard, etc needs an IID, will be determined by a State's Criminal Code. So, as I said earlier, contact (here on Avvo) a OR DUI attorney.
