I just read it but it doesn't say that he'll get his work permit before we have to do the I-864. Will he get his work permit first?

Maybe it means if he has income from his country or something.

You should retain an attorney. In my experience they will most likely require a co-sponsor.

I can't retain an attorney. I have no money. I'm a full time student trying to support a family of three. Besides, hat good will an attorney do if I still need to obtain a sponsor?

You make a good point; I don't disagree with you. I am sorry the system is this way and people have to hire an attorney to deal with things which should be simpler.
