Aren't bankruptcy trustees also trained lawyers? Why would the trustee I consult with quickly agree to this claim of one charge cancelling the other? Was he just saying whatever he had to say just to get my case?

It is not a requirement to be an attorney to be a bankruptcy trustee, and in any event, a bankruptcy trustee is prohibited from giving you legal advice.

I am going to start checking the credentials of the people "assisting" me a little more closely, and not rely on qualifications inferred through referrals from other professionals. Thanks.
