You have a lot of good points. But if there are red flags, now, it is not likely to get better, in the future. Hopefully, it would never be an issue. But if the kids need new winter coats, and the trustees resent the fact that those darned spendthrift guardians are always asking for money...it would not be a real pleasant situation for anyone concerned. As you point out, the specific facts of this situation would need to be addressed.
