Thank you for your response. I thought about reporting to the police, but it's perhaps too late to do so now--almost four weeks after the attack.

the statute of limitations on misdemeanor assault is two years. you will need to explain to the police why you waited but don't assume they wont believe you

Thank you for your response once again. Let me think about this. I don't know if the police would take the situation seriously as the only proofs I have are photos of my bruise. And if my ex-boyfriend has already taken a nasty step of sending me a lawyer's letter, I fear that he would be worse if I pursue the case further.
