Thank you but the images I am purchasing are of generic players and we are not purchasing any of the artists. We use a reputable stock photography company that we have use for years as we are web development company. There are no logos or team name as these image do not contain professional players or teams.

Even if the images only include "generic players" (rather than famous athletes), the models who appear in these photographs have rights of publicity, and you cannot use them without getting a release or license from the models who appear as "generic players". Even if you use a reputable stock photography company, you need to make sure there are no limitations on the scope of the license that this company grants you---the reputable companies often limit the scope of the license quite extensively.

When we purchase these images we have to re-license them for use for a client, does that sound like what you are referring to? Or should we contact the stock company and inquire with them as to exactly what their restrictions are?

You need to review the written terms of your license from the stock company---if you do not have those written terms, then you need to contact the stock company. It is a good idea to contact the stock company so thatyou are clear about your obligations.
