In Federal court, the same is basically true, with discovery generally governed by Rule 26 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, with interrogatories governed by Rule 33 of Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (and in many cases, local rules of the particular Federal court and even Judge's own rules, which may specify uniform definitions or place procedural limits on them). Document requests are governed by Rule 34 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and any applicable local or Judge's rules.
