Virginia Beach has a long history of being a tourist destination, even before the location was officially a city. The Oceanfront Boardwalk predates the city's official founding by over 60 years. Originally constructed of wooden planks, the Boardwalk still serves as the center for most tourism in the region.
The city is known for its many attractions, which includes the longest pleasure beach in the world. The coastline stretches for some 35 miles, and is dotted with various attractions.
