Rhode Island, named after the Greek Island of Rhodes, is home to some rich history. Starting in 1652, the Ocean State enacted North America’s first anti-slavery law. The 1778 Battle of Rhode Island saw the first American Black Regiment make a stand against England and a memorial in Portsmouth commemorates their service.
