Cincinnati was home to the world's first professional baseball team, the Cincinnati Red Stockings. The Cincinnati Red Stockings completed their first season in 1869 without losing a single game out of over 50 played -- an achievement that has never been matched.

Their first loss in their 93rd game caused many in Cincinnati to be heartbroken, and eventually led the team to move to Boston. However, the early contributions of the Red Stockings can be credited with putting baseball on the map as a major competitive sport in the United States.
