The history of the Bronx in New York goes way back to the first settlement on the Harlem River in 1639. The Bronx was named for Swedish settler Jonas Bronck.

By the turn of the century, the once suburban Bronx grew with the building of factories and neighborhoods close to the city. The Grand Concourse is the city’s main thoroughfare and was made in the image of the Parisian Champs Elysées.

The Yankee Stadium opened in 1923 and was the home of the New York Yankees. Major players like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig contributed to the team’s nickname the “Bronx Bombers,” due to their massive amount of home runs over the decades.
