It’s surprising that New Mexico is one of the U.S.’s most sparsely populated states considering it sees 310 sunny days each year. The Albuquerque metro area has over 800,000 people who call the region home.
Albuquerque is the “Hot Air Ballooning Capital of the World.” Each year hot-air balloon enthusiasts join the Balloon Fiesta.
Another fun fact, Bill Gates and Paul Allen founded Microsoft here in 1975 before moving to Bellevue, WA.
Albuquerque also houses 5 dormant volcanoes to the west. They are in a cooling state and on snowy days, the snow always melts first around the volcanoes due to residual heat.
