In 1916, two years after Montana granted voting rights to women, Montanans elected the first woman to serve in the United States Congress, Jeannette Rankin. A committed pacifist, Rankin voted against entering World War One. Today, the Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund annually provides educational scholarships to low-income women age 35 and older.
