Noted lawyer and former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln lived in Springfield, Illinois from 1837 until 1860, when he won the presidential election. Lincoln and eight other state lawmakers (nicknamed the “Long Nine” for their combined height) led the successful effort to move the capital to Springfield.

Abraham Lincoln’s final resting place is the Lincoln Tomb in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield.
