You cannot talk about Colorado Springs history without talking about Pikes Peak. This granite rock mountain hosted the area’s first people at its base. Native Americans, including the Cheyenne Indians, inhabited the area around Pikes Peak.
The area where the springs flow at the bottom of the Peak is known as the Garden of the Gods Park. In the 1700s, the French and Spanish both laid claim to the land that later became known as Colorado Springs.
One of America’s richest gold strikes was found in Colorado Springs, which spawned its nickname “the city of millionaires.”
