Oakland is the 7th biggest city in California and is recognized as a top location for business and jobs. The history of Oakland starts in the 1770’s when Spanish explorers scouted the area. By the 1800s, a Spanish soldier received a land grant from Spanish royalty for his loyal service, and the development of Oakland began.
Since then, Oakland has become known for its diversity, its status as the only California city with 3 professional sports teams, and its historical theme park. The United States’ first theme park for kids, Children’s Fairyland, was built on Lake Merritt, and inspired Walt Disney to build Disneyland.
