Birmingham is home to the oldest Veterans Day parade in the country. First celebrated in 1947, the Birmingham Veterans Day parade is still the largest in the country.

The city is also known for its history with the iron industry, and is home to the largest cast iron statue in the world. The statue is named Vulcan, after the Roman god of metalworking. It was entered into the World’s Fair at the turn of the century where it won first place.
